Established in April 2009 and based in Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, the Grand Union Community Choir is open to singers of all ages who want to sing a mix of music for pleasure as well as learning some technique along the way. There is no audition and everyone's voice is welcome, no matter how rusty or polished! The rehearsals are best described as a combination of fun and laughter as well as focused learning and thoughtful singing. Everyone is valued and worrying is not allowed!
There is no requirement to be able to read music as much of the learning is done aurally. Lyrics and music are available for loan if required.
The choir meets on Thursdays during school term time from 8.00pm to 9.30pm in Southcott Lower School, Bideford Green, Leighton Buzzard LU7 2UA. There are ten rehearsals each term.
The average attendance is currently 90 singers per rehearsal and the number of men is rising steadily.
The choir is directed by Susan Cox, an experienced animateur and local vocal director and Anna Hailes a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD). Accompaniment is provided by John Wearmouth, a gifted organist, pianist and choir director in his own right.
Thank you for your support on Saturday 24th February for the concert with the Leighton-Linslade Gala Orchestra. The concert which was at All Saints Church, Leighton Buzzard raised over £4,700.00 for Citizens Advice Leighton-Linslade.
